Technical system copy for the upgrade
Scope of the SAP system copy
One of the most common methods of creating an SAP system copy is to use SAP's own tool "BR*Tools". This tool provides the ability to create a backup of the database, which can then be used to restore the system. It can also be used to export certain data from the database and import it into another system.
Individual steps know exactly where they have to restart the actual copy run in the event of an error. In general, this means that error situations can be handled as needed and with pinpoint accuracy.
SAP Landscape Copies
Different DDLORA* files can be assigned to the R3load packages. The assignment is done by a text file, which is given to the MigrationMonitor as parameter 'ddlMap = mapDDL.txt' and evaluated by it.
Landscape copies refer to the update of not only one but a whole group of systems. This is the case when dependencies of the source systems are also to be mapped in the target environments. Similar to the simple system copy, the landscape copy also offers potential for automation, but this cannot be implemented by every tool on the market.
With "Shortcut for SAP Systems" you get additional functions for the SAP system copy.
The respective owners of the transports have the possibility to discard an obsolete development.
Production system downtime depends primarily on the method you use to create the image of the production data to be used in the target system.
