By 2017, the ten employees in the central IT Services department in Wuppertal, supported by a number of Indian colleagues, were in charge of all the systems and users of the group. In particular, the company's SAP solutions tied up a large proportion of its IT resources. Schmersal uses numerous SAP products, including SAP ERP for business process control, SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) or SAP Netweaver Business Intelligence (BI, formerly BW) warehouse management software.
We already offer AI- and Machine Learning-based support tools such as Automatic Translation to automatically translate SAP Notes and SAP Knowledge Base Articles. Built-in support and the digital support assistant will also become an integral part for our users. Customers want seamless support no matter where and on which device, and no matter what "channel". The intelligent merging of all channels, including mobile devices and social media, will give customers multiple ways to access support. Our vision is to have omnichannel access to our support, and to continue to develop new tools and pioneering solutions in co-innovation with our customers. Support will become more proactive and identify critical situations at an early stage - support will be delivered to the customer, not vice versa. Artificial intelligence and machine learning will further improve and simplify the support experience for customers, making the answers both faster and better. Intelligent ALM tools will provide fully automatic performance. We are constantly on the ball - our customers can expect a lot of innovation in SAP support in the future.

Almost a fifth of them were positive or neutral about the more "expensive" support model Enterprise Support. A total of 42% of those surveyed see this as a low or no added value. Interestingly, almost 40 percent did not say anything about this topic. Nevertheless, a positive trend is emerging. In a similar survey last year, nearly three-quarters of the participants said they had little or no added value to Enterprise Support. "The benefits of Enterprise Support, such as free services, have not yet been widely publicised by customers. The Enterprise Support Academy launched by SAP, which is an educational institution, is promising, but should receive even more attention," concludes Andreas Oczko. Nevertheless, SAP is still calling for standard support to remain in focus. The performance of this support model, which is also paid a significant maintenance rate, should not only include a minimum of service levels. We need to create more transparency about what service is included in which support contract. The information day is free of charge for SAP customers, it presents topics around enterprise support. The target group is customers who have an Enterprise Support Maintenance Agreement or are interested in it.
The experts have developed a proactive tool to monitor SAP system performance. The solution checks over 200 key figures and reports immediately when one of them is exceeded - allowing the team to resolve the issue immediately and avoid a costly failure.
Some missing SAP support functions in the standard are supplied by the PC application "Shortcut for SAP Systems".
